A Colorful Campaign
One might undermine the significant role that civil society is playing at the HLPF 2017 at the UN Headquarters in NY. However, the Women’s Major Group has launched a campaign with the hope of sending a powerful message throughout the 10 day event. It’s as simple as wearing a specific color on each day of the week. Yesterday was Day 1, and women around the UN were spotted wearing purple to represent respect, protection, and fulfillment of the rights of women and girls. On Day 2 (July 11) the set color is red, to protect and engage environmental women’s human right defenders. Other colors throughout the week will include orange, blue, pink, green, yellow, and blue, representing different aspects of gender inequality in regards to environmental issues and decision-making of sustainable development issues.
